Healing Process

– MICROBLADING –

Each client’s skin responds differently to these treatments. This information acts as a guideline only.

How to care for your new cosmetic tattoo: Congratulations on your new tattoo.

Now you can sit back, relax, and do nothing – seriously.

We have had the best results with this simple healing method and it makes it easier for everyone.

We recommend dabbing the tattooed area GENTLY 3-5 times a day (every 4-6 hours) with lukewarm water and a disposable paper towel, gauze or cotton round. Pat the area dry and apply a THIN layer of the barrier cream that has been supplied to you. Keep it out of the sun throughout the healing process. Do not apply ANY cosmetics in this area for AT LEAST 10-14 days. Keep the area clean and let it breathe.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Immediately following your procedure, the tattooed area will appear to be darker and bolder in color and more sharply defined. This can last up to a week after the treatment while the initial healing process takes place. The treated area may feel a bit like sunburn afterwards but there should be minimal discomfort.

During the initial healing period, there should be minimal scabbing or flaking of the skin. If that happens, do not pick, and allow the scab or dry skin to come off on its own.

The complete healing process takes about 4-6 weeks, at which time the true color of the tattoo is evident. During this process, your tattoo will soften and lighten. Be patient, even if you think too much color has been lost, as your skin is still regenerating and naturally exfoliating. Wait at least 4 weeks to see the true colour, as it seems to take on new strength, and it is only after 4-6 weeks that your touch-up/adjustment can be done.

WHAT NOT TO DO

You may shower or bathe normally, but AVOID getting any soaps, shampoos or other cleansers on the treated area for the first 7 days as they can be detrimental to the bonding process that must take place for the pigment to stabilise in the dermis.

DO NOT pick or scratch at the dry skin/flakiness; let the skin fall off naturally. Picking can cause scarring and premature loss of pigment. IMPORTANT: Once the flakes have fallen off, a shiny layer of healing skin will completely cover the hair strokes. It may appear as though the tattooed area has completely disappeared. This is just new skin forming. Within 1-2 weeks, the hair strokes will slowly reappear at a lighter shade as your skin regenerates.

DO NOT apply makeup to the tattooed area for the first 2 weeks. Cosmetics of any kind may interfere with the healing and colour of your tattoo.

DO NOT use Vaseline, Neosporin or other petroleum based products while healing.

DO NOT bleach, tint or dye the tattooed area for one month following the procedure.

DO NOT apply any anti-acne products (e.g. Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid, Proactiv, etc.) or lightening creams (skin bleaching creams) such as hydroquinone to the treated area while healing.

NO Anti-aging products or facial products containing Alpha Hydroxyls (AHAs), Retin-A, Lactic or Glycolic Acids.

DO NOT thread, wax, or use hair removal products on the treated area while healing.

NO exercising and/or sweating for a few days prior to getting tattooed and for 7-10 days after.

NO swimming pools, jacuzzis or other bodies of water for two weeks.

DO NOT soak your face underwater in a bathtub or allow the shower to spray directly in your face for at least 7 days.

ONCE HEALED

Exposure to the sun over time can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment. Once completely healed, you may apply sunscreen to the treated area. Wear large sunglasses and a hat for further protection. Rinse and dry the area thoroughly when in contact with chlorine.

Glycolic acid, microdermabrasion, and chemical face peel products must be kept away from the tattooed area as continued use could lighten the pigment.

If you are having laser resurfacing or laser hair removal after your tattoo has healed, please inform the laser technician. Continue at your own discretion. Laser procedures may darken, lighten, or discolor the tattooed area.

Once the treated area is completely healed, any changes or additions that need to be made can be done at your follow-up appointment no sooner than 4-8 weeks later.

There are no implied or written guarantees if you do not take care of your tattoo.

– SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION –

WHAT TO EXPECT

SMP PRE-CARE

Caring for your scalp is important for obtaining the most desired results.

We are so excited to work with you and give you a complete look of hair! In order to make sure you are fully prepared to come in, please be sure to follow these steps. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email bookbrody@ralucamb.com.

To ensure the best results possible, please follow these guidelines:

A WEEK BEFORE your scheduled procedure, only wash your scalp with a gentle, non-abrasive shampoo.

AFTER CLEANSING THE SCALP, moisturize it (preferably with a water-based moisturizer) to keep it well hydrated, only if needed, as too much oil on the scalp will not allow the pigment to absorb properly. A hydrated scalp will help the ink absorb.

AVOID sun exposure. Wear a loose fitting hat, or use sunscreen. We want as minimal peeling as possible.

AVOID taking any pain relievers like aspirin and ibuprofen before the treatment. If you take such medications on a regular basis, consult your physician first and ask them if it’s okay to stop taking pain relievers for 48 hours before each session.

BEFORE COMING IN, be sure to have had solid sleep, and to eat a healthy, filling meal. No alcohol or drugs the week of.

DO NOT consume alcohol or caffeine 24 hours before the procedure as these beverages can worsen the pain.

AVOID wearing any hair pieces a week prior to your treatment. For short to buzzed heads: 24 hours before your appointment, restrain from using a razor on your head. Please SHAVE your head with a razor 2-3 days before your procedure, or with clippers set on size 0 the day of your procedure.

FOR LONG HAIR: On the day of your service, please wash your hair with a gentle, non-abrasive shampoo.

Just as you want a Complete look of hair, we want to give that to you.

Following these steps will help your scalp be healthy and prepared for the treatment. We want you to look your best and be happy with the results. Please be sure to do your part by following these easy steps!

SMP AFTERCARE

Short-term care after your SMP treatment:

Once you’ve successfully completed each session of your scalp micropigmentation treatment, you should follow these short-term care instructions to allow the pigments to settle in. Keep in mind that during this period, you want to be as gentle as possible with your scalp. Redness is completely normal right after the procedure.

AVOID soaking your head in water for about 3-5 days. Also, avoid any activities that cause you to sweat profusely. Excessive sweat can make the pigments look blotchy and ruin the appearance of your treatment.

MINIMIZE sun exposure to your scalp as much as possible. The sun’s UV rays can break down the pigments and cause premature fading. Ideally, you should wear a hat whenever you’re exposed under the sun.

YOU MAY NOTICE a bit of swelling the first few days after the treatment. This is completely normal and should not be a cause of concern. For temporary relief, place a small towel over your head and put an ice bag on top.

DO NOT scrub, scratch, or comb your scalp. If it becomes too itchy, use your fingertips instead of your nails to avoid taking off some of the pigments.
You can then wash your scalp on the 5th day with a mild non-abrasive shampoo.

Long-term care for your SMP treatment:

Scalp micropigmentation is intended to be a permanent solution to your hair loss problems. Provided that you implement these long-term care instructions, you’ll be able to enjoy a fuller, thicker head of hair for years to come. To get the most out of your SMP treatment, make sure to follow these tips:

KEEP your scalp moisturised each day. Use moisturiser right after taking a shower and before going to bed. This helps minimize dry scalp and prevent the flaking of the pigments.

APPLY sunscreen to your scalp with at least 50 SPF to preserve the color of the pigments and prevent them from fading.

REFRAIN FROM using hair care products that contain alcohol in them. Alcohol can be absorbed by your scalp and make the pigments look blotchy, so it’s best to avoid them as much as possible.

EXFOLIATE your scalp at least once a week to remove dead skin cells and maintain the appearance of the pigments.

MAKE SURE you book your yearly maintenance treatments / touch-ups. Just like tattoos, scalp micropigmentation fades slowly over time.

WITH A TOUCH-UP, you can customise your look by sharpening the edges of your hairline or changing its color depending on your personal preferences.

With so many hair loss solutions out there, scalp micropigmentation has proven to be one of the most effective treatments around. The results are very realistic and it delivers incredible value for your money. However, you do need to look after your treatment to ensure consistent results. With these aftercare tips, you’ll be able to enjoy a fuller head of hair that will not only restore your hair, but also your confidence as well.
